What Color Eyes Does Prince Harry Have
For a long time, Prince Harry had been lauded for being down to earth and supporting causes that impact many less-privileged people. He was compared to his mother, the late Princess Diana, and even called the "People's Prince."
However, after a tough year for Prince Harry, royal experts are now questioning whether he still deserves the title of the "People's Prince" anymore. Let's go over what these experts think and see if their judgments are fair or not.
Prince Harry has been faced with a lot of 'PR disasters'
Ever since Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in 2018, he has received a lot of negative press.
For example, the couple has been criticized for spending almost $3 million in taxpayers' money to renovate their new home. People also were less-than-thrilled when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to live like private citizens while still reaping benefits that come with being royals.
Prince Harry also made headlines for reportedly feuding with Prince William. The feud has never been confirmed by a reliable source, but onlookers believe that the two brothers are not on good terms like before, especially after Harry began dating Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry was accused of being 'hypocritical' and 'detached'
Prince Harry has supported a lot of causes related to the environment. He is a big champion for conservation efforts in a few African countries as well as a climate change activist.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently went on vacation to three destinations and took three private plane rides in one week. This did not sit well with a lot of people, who noticed that gas-guzzling private jets are not exactly the most environmentally-friendly mode of transportation.
"He's going to an environmental conference in a private plane, getting a private helicopter to an island and then staying in a superyacht off the shore," royal editor Duncan Larcombe said on Yahoo's Royal Box. "People aren't stupid, come on Harry… He's now become some hypocritical, preachy, detached, slightly confused prince."
Royal experts say Prince Harry should not be called the 'People's Prince' anymore
Duncan Larcombe also noted that Prince Harry used to be called the "People's Prince" because, back in the days, he would travel "on a budget airline with his mates."
"Harry and William never used to fly on private planes — certainly for private holidays," Larcombe added.
Another royal expert, Rob Johnson, told Sky News that people are definitely not afraid to call out Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for their recent actions. "This morning they've posted on their Instagram account about doing a little bit of good and the people came straight back saying, 'stop jumping into private jets.'"
Does Prince Harry still deserve to be called the "People's Prince"?
A number of celebrities have come forward to defend Prince Harry. They seem to believe that there was nothing wrong with him taking private jets and that he is still deserving of his "People's Prince" title.
For example, Elton John — who was a close friend of Princess Diana — posted a message on Instagram to tell followers that he and his husband invited Prince Harry and Harry's family to his private home in Nice, France.
"To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight," Elton John wrote. "To support Prince Harry's commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint."
He also criticized the media for their "untrue assassinations on [Harry and Meghan's] character."
Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres also said that she met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle once before noting: "They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you're trying to do is make the world better."
